Environmental Commitment

At Costa Maya Sportfishing our passion for fishing is second only to our passion for the health of our oceans.
As such, we practice sustainable fishing practices and strive to make our tours as low impact as possible.

Sustainable Fishing Practices

Sustainability is a method of harvesting or using a resource so that the resource is not depleted nor permanently damaged. Trolling is considered sustainable as bycatch is minimal and unwanted fish can be released quickly and safely.

Fly fishing is strictly Catch and Release only.

At Costa Maya Sport Fishing, we practice sustainable fishing on all our charters. We are strict to follow Mexican Fisheries enforced charter boat bag and size limits and encourage catch and release on a number of species. We only keep sustainable fish stock.

Environmental Responsibilities

Our partner, Menos Plasticos es Fantasticos is a local NGO that seeks to raise awareness in the local community to preserve and protect the environment by reducing plastic consumption through events and education.

At No Expectations Fishing all rubbish including paper and plastic is disposed of responsibly at land based facilities. Bottles and cans are all recycled at a land based depot. Special care is also taken with the disposal of all unwanted/used oils and rags, engine filters, diesel and solvents. The organic waste is composted. Plastic is reused and upcycled in conjunction with Menos Plasticos es Fantasticos whenever possible.

In addition, we aim to reduce as much as possible the amount of carbon our fishing boat emits.
